In Llano Grande (Big Valley), an impoverished village in El Salvador, nutritious food - any food - is hard to come by for poor families. Three young brothers - Walter, Victor and Alexander - know this all too well.
On many days they wondered when the pangs in their stomachs would subside because they were so hungry. So much so, all three suffered from malnutrition, which can stunt children’s growth, slow their development, weaken their immune system, and even kill them.
But that was not to be the course Walter, Victor and Alexander would stay on once they began attending San Vincente School, where Convoy of Hope offers its Nurturing Hope Program.
Upon enrolling in the school the brothers not only started their educations, they began receiving nutritious meals and had access to clean drinking water. Almost immediately, the food they were given began supplying their bodies with the nutrients and energy they needed to get healthy.
Today, Walter, Victor and Alexander are eager learners who feel secure knowing where their next meal is coming from. Because of it, they are excelling in their studies and preparing themselves for bright futures.
But that is not the case for millions of other children throughout the world who do not yet have access to regular, nutritious meals and clean drinking water. Every 2.43 seconds someone dies from starvation. Every 15 seconds a child dies from water-related diseases. It’s estimated that 160 million children are malnourished and there are tens of millions of children who live in extreme poverty - on less than a $1.25 per day.
At Convoy of Hope we are working hard to change those disheartening facts. With the financial and prayer support of friends we are helping stamp out malnourishment and hunger one child at a time. Right now we are feeding more than 18,000 children in some of the world’s poorest regions. In doing so, we’re giving children the means to better lives.
With your support we can do the same for thousands of more children.
