Farmer donates crops

Two years ago as Russell Edgar plowed his field in Bathgate, N. D., he felt compelled to commit 20 acres of his farm’s corn and soybean crops to help Convoy of Hope feed hungry people.

The next year Edgar’s friends and neighbors joined the cause. One neighbor donated herbicide, another loaned Edgar the planter plates he needed to plant pinto beans. Another neighbor donated a combine, trucks, labor and fuel to reap the harvest. After the harvest, Weinlaeder Seed Company in Drayton, N.D., bagged the beans for the cost of supplies.

To date, Edgar’s crops have yielded more than 60,000 pounds of corn and beans for Convoy of Hope. Produce from Edgar’s farm has been shipped to the Philippines, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Haiti, Panama, Cuba and the Dominican Republic.
