In early July, torrential rains slammed Monterrey, Mexico causing flooding that reportedly killed at least 30 people.
Patty, a young mother who lives in an impoverished Monterrey neighborhood that sustained heavy damage, said the floodwaters came quickly, but quick-thinking neighbors helped save her family by cutting a large hole in the side of her house.

“Nearly 4,700 families in Monterrey were affected by the flooding,” says Jason Anderson, a disaster response representative. “Many of the streets were wiped out and several homes were destroyed.”
In the aftermath of the flooding, Convoy of Hope distributed 20 water purification units and four water tanks that will provide 5,000 gallons of fresh water each day in the areas Anderson assessed. In all, 24,000 residents will benefit from the new water source.
