Silvio — a little boy unable to speak or walk often spent his days in a worn, tattered wheelchair in the city of La Libertad, El Salvador. Most people in his community live below the poverty line — Silvio’s family is no exception. Each day Silvio’s mother, Frances, struggles to provide food for her family.
You can help families like this one.
The roads around Silvio’s home are very rough, rugged and muddy. The bald rubber tires and shredded cloth seat of Silvio’s wheelchair made it difficult for him to go through the crater sized potholes and rocky terrain everyday.
Recently, Convoy of Hope provided a heavy-duty, all-terrain wheelchair for Silvio. When Frances saw the chair she was overwhelmed with joy. The new wheelchair’s simplistic design allows inexpensive repairs if needed. But more importantly, it will allow Silvio to traverse easier over the pockmarked roads of his community. Hopefully his mother will no longer have to worry about Silvio’s mobilization and can instead focus on the daily needs of feeding her children.
“Part of feeding the children of the world is giving them the tools to live better lives,” says Kara Edson, international programs manager.
