Hope for Cullman’s hurting

More than 50 volunteers gathered around pallets of food, water and cleaning supplies unloaded from a Convoy of Hope tractor-trailer onto a parking lot in Cullman, Ala., 50 miles north of Birmingham.

Soon, tornado survivors began to arrive looking for help.

“Me, my mom and my brother were in a neighbor’s basement when the storm hit, says Anahi, 11. “We were not hurt but our home had damage. My father was in a building that was half destroyed, but he and my uncle are okay.” As Anahi spoke, her mother’s face registered worry over the days ahead.

Join Convoy of Hope in helping families like Anahi’s in the South and throughout the world.

A Convoy of Hope worker loaded water, energy drinks, ready-to-eat meals and cleaning supplies into this family’s vehicle and a Spanish speaking volunteer communicated comfort and support to Anahi’s mother.

“We are out here today to reach our community and connect with other churches,” says Brad Sheats, a pastor launching a new church in Cullman this August. “Three churches provided volunteers for this relief effort.”

After instructions were given, volunteers began to eagerly form teams, bag and load supplies into delivery vehicles, and determine routes for mobile distributions.

“Although our partners and volunteers have enabled us to help thousands, we continue to identify communities that have not received any assistance since the storm,” says Paul Coroleuski, field services director for Convoy of Hope. “People are still waiting for help and Convoy of Hope will be here as long as our help is needed.”
