HUD Secretary Praises Convoy of Hope
For Immediate Release:
Washington, D.C. – Steve Preston, Housing and Urban Development secretary, recently praised the disaster relief efforts of Convoy of Hope in a speech to religious and business leaders in Washington, D.C.
Jim Wallis, president and executive director of Sojourners, and an adviser to President-elect Obama, and Rick Santorum, former U.S. senator from Pennsylvania, also complimented the Springfield, Mo.-based organization for its innovation and leadership.
“I was pleased by the recognition given to Convoy of Hope and our partner organizations,” said Hal Donaldson, founder and president of Convoy of Hope. “The speakers reminded us that the sectors of influence in our nation need to work more closely together to solve problems in America and around the world. I believe Convoy of Hope is a model for the collaborations they were advocating.”
The two day gathering of religious and business leaders also included a tour of the White House and briefings from members of the Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives, Department of Homeland Security, and Freedom Corps in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building.
“The event was intended to inform and envision leaders on opportunities to partner with government and corporate America to help people in need in their respective communities,” said David Donaldson, event director and Convoy of Hope co-founder.
Convoy of Hope has been recognized as a leading charity, receiving Charity Navigator’s coveted four-star seal of approval for six years in a row, which is awarded to only 2 percent of charities nationwide.
