In Alabama: Alleviating fears

Maria stood in the middle of the street surveying the devastation that surrounded her and the Convoy of Hope mobile distribution team.

The team was in Alberta, Ala., just outside of Tuscaloosa delivering water, energy drinks, ready-to-eat meals, granola bars, and hygiene products. A national media outlet referred to this community as “ground zero” because of the damage it sustained.

“We came here trying to escape the storms and ended up right in the middle of one,” says Maria. “Our hotel has no electricity. We have absolutely nothing ... the first couple of days I told myself to be strong, but yesterday I broke down. I’m scared to death,” Maria adds.

When Convoy of Hope volunteers handed Maria water and ready-to-eat meals she smiled broadly, relieved to know she would not have to worry about where her next meals would come from.

On Sunday, more than 60 Convoy of Hope mobile distribution teams delivered emergency relief supplies to Alabamans working to recover from these deadly storms.
