Lucy was born four months after the January 2010 earthquake struck Haiti. Her single mom had epilepsy and no job. As Lucy’s mom watched her daughter gradually grow weaker, she made a desperate decision to abandon Lucy on the doorstep of Redeemer’s Child orphanage in Port-au-Prince. Redeemer’s Child is one of the orphanages for which Convoy of Hope provides meals.
You can help kids like Lucy all around the world.
When David Edson, Caribbean regional coordinator for Convoy of Hope, first met Lucy in the orphanage he did not think she would survive. At 3 months old, Lucy weighed less than three pounds, her short life a tale of hardship and deprivation.
Six months later, Edson was elated to see that Lucy had flourished under the care she received at the orphanage. She was healthy, happy and active. “Lucy will grow up in the orphanage where she will receive vocational training that will enable her to have a bright future,” says Edson.
Friends of Convoy of Hope have not only helped save Lucy’s life, they’ve given her hope for the future.
