Reaching out to Australia

To help victims of flooding in Australia, Convoy of Hope sped relief funds to devastated areas through in-country partners and is now assessing how it can be of help in long-term recovery plans.

“We’ve had calls for food and supplies,” says Kary Kingsland, senior vice president of Convoy of Hope. “In many areas the water is still up and it continues to rain. In such scenarios we typically try to position ourselves so that we can be ready with aid when the greatest needs are presented.”

Because Australia is a developed country, Kingsland says, displaced people typically find shelter, food and water in or around their community during times of flooding. But, when the water recedes and the long-term recovery process begins many families soon find they are running low or out of life"s basic necessities.

“By working on our logistical strategy while the waters are still high we can be more effective in our response,” says Kingsland.
