United effort makes big impact in Haiti

Last year, Missouri students donated more than $200,000 worth of toiletry items to children in Haiti through the Kits 4 Kids campaign sponsored by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

“Each child was so appreciative of the kit he or she received,” says Bob Brewer, a Convoy of Hope disaster responder who distributed kits at an orphanage in Haiti. “The children were happy to know somebody cared about them.”

Recently, Convoy of Hope leaders expressed their appreciation to Peter F. Herschend, president of the Missouri Board of Education, for his role in making the campaign a success.

“Peter Herschend was instrumental in connecting Convoy of Hope with the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education,” says Ron Showers, global initiatives director for Convoy of Hope. “He helped to lay the foundation for the Kits 4 Kids campaign that generated more than 40,000 hygiene kits for the children of Haiti.”
