Project Focus in El Salvador
Nurturing Hope – El Salvador
The Nurturing Hope program in El Salvador started in January 2007 with four schools located in areas of desperate need in rural El Salvador. In May, Convoy of Hope received a USAID grant allowing us to expand the program to include a total of 18 schools, feeding more than 5,000 children a day. The program includes a hot protein/vitamin enriched meal, anti-parasite medicine, daily vitamins, school supplies, purified water at each rural school, educational material on health and nutrition with a Christian perspective, teaching for both parents and children through the church and school, and vegetable seeds to enable them to grow their own food. Children that were undernourished and now healthy and at the proper weight. Convoy of Hope plans to strengthen this program in El Salvador and replicate it globally. During the April HopeWalk we will visit many of these schools, talk with teachers and students and learn how we can participate in Nurturing Hope.
