Convoy of Hope celebrated World Water Day, March 22, with new opportunities and more chances for people to help in the global water crisis. This day was to raise awareness of the need for clean drinking water around the world and Convoy of Hope provides people with a way to help those people in need.
The water filters implemented by the Convoy of Hope team are called Bio-Sand filters where the water is driven by gravity through layers of sand and gravel inside of a concrete or plastic container. The sand and gravel removes over 95% of the dirt, bacteria, viruses, parasites, and other impurities from the water. The filters can be made anywhere in the world because it is built with simple materials that are available.
Convoy of Hope has been active in building water filters around the world wherever clean water is needed. The following are current estimated statistics for 2008 based on the 2007 rate per month of placing the water filters in these particular countries.
