Conditions Worsening in Myanmar

Convoy of Hope has staff in Bangkok, Thailand working to get product and personnel into the worst hit regions of Myanmar. Reports from partners inside Myanmar indicate that approximately 300 refugee camps have been established and are accommodating 250,000 people.
According to Oxfam International, another 1.5 million people could die from waterborne diseases unless more aid can reach devastated regions. Thousands are in IDP (Internally Displaced Person) camps, there is very little food is going in, and many are extremely hungry at this point. Dysentery has set in due to water conditions.
Convoy of Hope has arranged for shipping and warehousing in Bangkok for a large shipment of individual water purification units. Through our relationship with Federal Express, they are picking these units up in China and shipping them for free into Bangkok.
Convoy of Hope President Hal Donaldson called on people to give generously so more deaths can be prevented. “Every day is critical to their survival,” he said. “Every donation can save a life.” Please help Convoy of Hope respond to victims of this devastating disaster.
We are purchasing medicine in Thailand now in order to help victims stave off the effects of unclean water. News reports and first-hand observation state that this is an immediate concern for the victims. Thousands have already died from the diseases associated with impure water, and more are certain to come.
Our staff attended meetings this morning with a coalition of aid partners in the region. Convoy of Hope is working together with these partners to establish distribution routes and methods in Myanmar. As a result, 2 trucks left Bangkok en route to Myanmar carrying water, tents, water purification pills, and other supplies. We have partners in country now to effectively distribute this product to victims.
In addition, plans are being made for the long term recovery as well. Containers of vitamin enriched rice are being being readied for shipment. Convoy of Hope is planning on being involved in this response effort for possibly the next 6 months.
We need your help! Your gift will make an immediate impact. In one region, reports have stated they quit counting the dead at 100,000 and started counting the living instead.
Thanks you for your generosity, and your donations to help the unfortunate victims in Myanmar.
