Convoy of Hope Expands Relief Efforts in Tornado-Devastated Greensburg, Kansas
For Immediate Release:
Springfield, Mo. — Working closely with local partners, Convoy of Hope has been on the ground in Greensburg, Kan. since a deadly F5 tornado leveled the humble town of 1,500.
A mandatory evacuation order remains in effect; since Monday residents and relief workers have been allowed to enter the town only between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. The Convoy of Hope U.S. Disaster Response Team has been distributing water and PowerAde to relief workers and residents digging through the debris of their destroyed homes.
As the community’s coordinated disaster response is coming together, Convoy of Hope is also stepping up its efforts. The organization will open a comfort station on Thursday, offering water, PowerAde and snacks to families, emergency workers and volunteers. Convoy of Hope continues to assist outlying farming communities also affected by the storm.
Convoy of Hope is sending another truckload of product to Greensburg today, along with the Convoy of Hope RV, which the U.S. Disaster Response Team will use as a hub for the remainder of the response.
The organization appreciates the many calls offering assistance to hurting victims of the powerful storm. Cash donations offer the greatest help at this time. “Cash donations help us provide essential items when victims can best use them, and are the most effective way to help. Through our corporate partnerships, we are able to multiply the power of every donated dollar,” U.S. Disaster Response Director Kary Kingsland said.
To best help the people of Greensburg, Kansas at this time, cash donations can be made at http://www.convoyofhope.org, where a specific fund has been set up for the town.
The Convoy of Hope U.S. Disaster Team is also continuing to monitor flooding events across the Midwest and a subtropical storm watch along the southeast coast of the United States.
