Convoy of Hope Makes a Difference by stocking local food banks
Springfield, Mo. - Springfield-based Convoy of Hope is again sending its trucks on a journey of compassion - but this time they are rolling just down the road and around the corner. Convoy of Hope says “thank-you” to the community for the ongoing support that it enjoys, commending local groups that make a difference in our community, each and every day.
As a way of saying “thank-you,” Convoy of Hope is distributing two semi-trucks of food among local food banks. With these loads, Convoy of Hope will have given more than $1 million worth and nearly one million pounds of nonperishable foods to Ozarks-area food banks in 2006.
As a Friday afternoon kick-off to the nationwide USA Weekend event, Make a Difference Day, the organization will deliver pallets of non-perishable food items to Least of These in Nixa, 1 p.m.; The Kitchen, 2 p.m.; Victory Mission, 2:30 p.m.; and Salvation Army, 3 p.m. (Times are approximate, please call 860-2196 to arrange for interviews.)
From 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday, several invited food pantries that cannot accept the large palletized items, or that require more variety in smaller quantities, will come to a distribution point in the east parking lot of Second Baptist Church to load their trucks and trailers with nonperishable goods that will help fill their cupboards and closets.
Note to media: Convoy of Hope appreciates all that you’ve done to share our story with the local community. It is our intent through this effort to draw attention to smaller local groups that might not otherwise receive any exposure, and praise them for their heroic efforts.
