Convoy of Hope Partners with NAMB, Southern Baptist Convention Disaster Relief
Springfield, Mo. - Springfield-based Convoy of Hope has opened its warehouse to yet another relief activity. The international compassion organization is now playing host to the North American Mission Board (NAMB), Southern Baptist Convention Disaster Relief’s mobile kitchen unit, which prepares hot meals for victims of disaster. Previously working from Second Baptist Church, the quantity of meals being requested required NAMB to utilize more space.
Using 1200 sq. feet of warehouse space, NAMB served 2,160 meals Saturday, 2,725 meals Sunday and will serve 1,635 meals today. The numbers of meals will continue to fall as people return to their homes.
NAMB representatives anticipate continuing the service through the middle of next week, or as long as needed.
Convoy of Hope has actively resourced area shelters, EOCs and other responders to victims of the recent ice storm, distributing 292,000 lbs. of its own water, non-perishable food, and personal hygiene kits, and managing another 125,000 lbs. of water for the Springfield/Greene County EOC/National Guard.
