Convoy of Hope Rolls to Central Florida
Springfield, Mo. - Convoy of Hope’s U.S. Disaster Response Team is back on the road to familiar territory in Florida. But rather than responding to hurricanes, this time the Team is responding to devastation left in the wake of last night’s vicious tornadoes.
At 7 a.m. Saturday, two semi-trucks will be loaded with 80,000 lbs. of bottled water, PowerAde, soup, cereal, soymilk, chips, and cleaning supplies. They will depart for Florida at approximately 8:30 a.m.
Ahead of the trucks, the Disaster Response Team personnel will arrive at 1 p.m. local time and immediately begin preparations for distributing the relief products.
· 30,000 households remain without power
· 1,600 homes are destroyed
· 800 homes have either total destruction or major damage
· 4 counties have a boil water order in effect
Several churches Convoy of Hope has worked with in the past are requesting the organization’s presence once again so that they can better meet the needs of affected area residents. In terms of damage and lives lost, the devastation is being compared with that of Hurricane Charley.
