Ford Indonesia donates 10 vehicles to assist Convoy of Hope
Springfield, Mo. — Convoy of Hope has just added ten more vehicles to its international fleet, but these aren’t the 18-wheelers that most of us have come to associate with the compassion organization. PT Ford Motor Indonesia has donated the ten vehicles to assist with Convoy of Hope’s long-term relief work in Indonesia and Sri Lanka. Four brand-new Ford Ranger trucks and a passenger van have been given to each country.
Will Angove, President Director of PT Ford Motor Indonesia, presented Convoy of Hope officials with keys to the automobiles in late March. Traveling from Jakarta, Indonesia’s capitol, this was Angove’s first visit to the area since the tsunami hit Southeast Asia in December 2004. When he saw the destruction first-hand, Angove was moved and even more enthusiastic about assisting with the organization’s relief work, “You still can’t fathom the extent of the devastation until you see it first-hand.”
Continuing its long-term commitment to Southeast Asia, Convoy of Hope is sharing the vehicles with partner organizations. Working together, they are using the vehicles to transport food, building supplies, tools, and the teams that will be building schools and community centers.
“We are so appreciative of Ford’s generosity — these vehicles will help our relief efforts run much more effectively because we’ll be able to get more people and supplies where they need to be that much faster,” said Jeff Nene, Convoy of Hope’s Media/Communications Director, who was at the presentation. “The timing couldn’t be more perfect because we have several volunteer work teams going over to help with the rebuilding efforts this summer.”
Nene anticipates that the Convoy of Hope will continue to provide humanitarian aid to Southeast Asia for a long time to come.
