Hurricane Ike Sets its Eye on Texas
On the heels of a major response to hurricane Gustav and shortly after responding to Ike’s reign of terror in the Caribbean, Convoy of Hope staff find themselves in motion once again. This time they are in Texas, setting up for another rapid response. Hurricane Ike has proven to be one of the largest storms on record, as it struck land near Galveston late Friday and into Saturday morning.
Convoy of Hope, having staged our trucks in San Antonio, came in on the weak side of the storm Saturday morning as it passed the Texas coastline and made its way inland.
“Our relief teams are rushing truckloads of food, water and ice to desperate people right now.” stated Convoy of Hope President, Hal Donaldson. “This relief and recovery effort will take many weeks. This is a time for Americans to come together, to reach out to people who have lost everything they own. Every dollar is critical. Millions of pounds of supplies are needed to help people get through this disaster.”
That assistance comes in the form of ice, water, and Meals Ready to Eat (MREs). Your gifts are what make it possible for us to assist the victims of this tragic storm.

In the hours and days immediately following a hurricane, victims are in desperate need of ice and water. Convoy of Hope is providing just that, by the truckload. Days before Ike came close to Texas, Convoy trucks were picking up trailer loads of ice and getting them positioned. These trucks were placed in various locations where they would be safe, but be ready to move into Texas as soon after the storm as possible.
As the days stretch on, Convoy of Hope will be there to help the victims, and bring hope to those who feel they have no hope. Your gifts are crucial to helping us do that.
Will you make a secure online donation today? Will you stretch your hand of compassion out toward someone you may never know, but who will be forever grateful of your help?
