400 Volunteers Brave Record-Setting Heat
Record-setting heat couldn’t keep more than 400 volunteers and hundreds of families from the Webster County outreach—one of the poorest communities in Missouri.
Two hundred and seventy of the guests were treated to free haircuts and makeovers by local stylists and beauticians. Women received new handbags filled with free Redken as well as Nick Chavez products.
Inside the carnival area the kids were treated to a free “train” ride, inflatables, snow cones and cotton candy, a dunk tank, and games with lots of prizes. Children received free back to school supplies after enjoying the petting zoo and the Kids’ Zone.
Cox Health and the Jordan Valley Associates were among the health professionals that provided free vision, hearing, and dental screenings — as well as school physicals and immunizations. One of the students said that without the free physical, he wouldn’t have been able to play football for his school this year.
All of the guests enjoyed a free lunch with ice cold drinks as they listened to local bands provide family-friendly entertainment.
Hundreds of families asked for prayer before they left to receive their free groceries. One guest was overcome with emotion and broke into tears when she received bags of groceries! Unable to contain her appreciation, she expressed her thanks by giving the volunteer a huge hug.
