Gulf Coast Outreaches

In 2006, Convoy of Hope launched the God Cares Campaign to reach out to the devastated families of the Gulf Coast through our one-day compassion events. We targeted 10 cities from Biloxi, Mississippi to eastern Texas where around 20,000 guests were served by 1,724 volunteers from 274 different churches and organizations. Over 350,000 pounds of groceries were distributed as well as medical and dental services, haircuts, children’s games and activities, lunches, entertainment, and all included were entirely free to the guests. Most of all, these one-day events provided families with a day to spend together away from the destruction and debris left by the hurricanes where they could find encouragement and hope.
In partnership with 7,800 volunteers we reached over 45,000 guests in 2007 through Gulf Coast Outreaches. Convoy of Hope knows that there are many people in the Gulf and surrounding areas that are still rebuilding their lives, and we have committed to 14 outreach events in 2008. It is our goal to reach thousands of families to let them know that they are not forgotten and we are still there to help and support the community. With many people still displaced and thousands of homes and businesses still trying to rebuild, we are thankful for the opportunity to serve the people of the Gulf Coast region and let them know that there is still hope.
