One Year Later: Reflecting on 2020 & the Pandemic

Reported by Convoy of Hope

We are quickly approaching one year of living through the COVID-19 pandemic. As photos flood social media feeds from last March and as friends share about the last shows, events, or large gatherings they attended in 2020, we’re reminded of how our lives have drastically changed. For many, reflecting on this year of loss is a painful experience. But it has also been a year of hope.

Convoy of Hope launched our COVID-19 response in late March 2020 as we saw people lose jobs, kids leave school — along with the school lunches many of them depended on — and families worry about basic necessities. In a time of the unknown, Convoy of Hope chose to bring light and hope with a pledge to distribute 10 million meals.

Your generosity quickly turned 10 million meals into 50 million, and then 100 million into 150 million. As the need grew, so did your compassion. In a time where we were told to stay physically distanced, we came together through kindness and generosity to help those hit hardest by the pandemic.

Now, approximately one year later, Convoy of Hope has delivered more than 200 million meals to people suffering from COVID-19 and the restrictions that followed. With your support, we also fed more than 387,000 children every single school day, empowered more than 26,000 women and girls, and trained more than 15,000 participants in agricultural practices in 2020.

Last year was difficult in profound ways for everyone. As we look back, we urge you not to forget the triumphs. Since last March, you have helped bring life-changing hope to millions of people.

Your individual acts of kindness — whether they were financial donations, time volunteered, or a post shared on social media — were the driving force behind a united act of compassion.

Thank you.
