Wichita Community Event Serves More Than 10,000

USA Reported by Convoy of Hope

Convoy of Hope has partnered with churches and organizations in Kansas to bring hope to people for years. Now, 10 years after their first Wichita Community Event, more people than ever are finding the help they need.

On July 23, Convoy worked with more than 80 churches and nearly 40 organizations to host nine drive-thru sites across the greater Wichita area.

At the end of the day and with the help of volunteers, Convoy:

  • Served more than 10,700 people.
  • Worked with more than 900 volunteers.
  • Handed out more than 10,300 bags of groceries.
  • Gave 9,250 backpacks filled with school supplies to local kids.

And on a day when temperatures were over 100 degrees, teams handed out nearly 7,000 snow cones to cool down Guests of Honor.

“What an amazing opportunity to love people,” said volunteer Linda Hephner. “Thank you, Convoy, for all that you do and offer. Not just Wichita, but around the world!”

About Community Events

Guided by the Guest of Honor principle, Convoy of Hope Community Events provide groceries, health services, haircuts, family portraits, career services, shoes, and much more — all at no charge. It’s a time for organizations, churches, businesses, and government agencies to come together. And when they do, they bring hope to families in need.

“Seeing that many churches and groups come together and work to bring hope to others was so encouraging,” said Convoy of Hope’s Ryan Bowles, who helped orchestrate Saturday’s event. He said he’s still hearing from volunteers about the effects a bag of groceries or an act of kindness had on the people they served.

Convoy of Hope remains committed to helping people who are feeling burdened in a time of financial uncertainty. Alongside our community partners and volunteers, Convoy wants to extend kindness, compassion, and hope to as many people as we can in communities around the world.
