MACON, GA — Convoy of Hope is responding to the devastating storms that struck portions of Alabama and Georgia.
Alabama Governor Kay Ivey declared a state of emergency across 46 counties. Tornadoes, high winds, flash flooding, and large hail were the primary threats. Much of the damage was caused by “long-track tornadoes,” which are tornadoes that stay on the ground for extended periods of time.
To date, six fatalities and multiple injuries have been confirmed.
Catastrophic damage was reported in Birmingham, Alabama; Newnan, Georgia; and surrounding areas. Houses were completely destroyed, trees were uprooted, and power lines were knocked down.
Our local Convoy of Hope team in Macon, Georgia, has already packed and is on its way to provide immediate relief to survivors. Convoy of Hope tractor-trailers are currently en route to the disaster zone from the World Distribution Center with more relief supplies, including tarps, food, water, cleanup supplies, and other necessities.
