Giving Christmas

This Christmas, hundreds of volunteers will skip several hours of traditional festivities to give Christmas to thousands of Charlestonians. The Citadel Christmas Party in Charleston S.C., is made possible by local churches and organizations who are serious about caring for the underserved in their community. Convoy of Hope will provide nearly 20,000 lbs. of groceries and supplies to supplement the toys, bikes and Christmas dinners provided by the community.

For ten years Gordon Cashwell has worked with Convoy of Hope to serve families facing hard economic situations in Charleston. For eight of those years, Cashwell was the local volunteer helping lead our outreaches.

“After eight years of Convoy of Hope community outreaches, they are working together to put on their own event,” says Ron Showers, senior director of community enrichment for Convoy of Hope. “This is the reality of people who caught a tremendous vision to change their city ten years ago and have been pursuing it ever since.”

The one-day event put on by local churches and organizations in partnership with Convoy of Hope is intended to give underserved families an incredible Christmas. However, it’s become evident that this group of volunteers, churches and organizations are dedicated to serving Charleston long after December 25th.
